
Leading the work of the Clan McGrath in Ulster over a number of years, as Ceann Fine Ulaidh / Ulster, Seán has been pivotal in bringing together the different septs of the Clan McGrath in Ireland, into one society in the last number of years. Seán’s keen interest in Irish history sees him represent the interests of Irish clans more broadly as a board member of the Clans of Ireland – Finte na hEireann for almost 6 years.
Seán holds a degree in Theology and post graduate qualifications in public policy. Seán has served over 30 years in public service, including as a diplomat to China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Mongolia.

Seán is an active member of Order of Malta Ireland and with his wife of 20 years Louise, devotes his time to promoting charitable activities including through his leadership of an outreach programme to students at Queen’s University Belfast, promoting community engagement and hospitaller activities.
Seán enjoys a range of outdoor pursuits including, mountaineering. He is a keen fencer and archer and enjoys film and music. Seán also enjoys travelling and has been fortunate to have visited many nations across Europe, Asia and Africa.
